The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me is the fourth game in The Dark Pictures Anthology series and the last in the first season. It marks a return to the slasher horror subgenre, with a story inspired by the horrifying acts of HH Holmes. If you're looking for an intense and suspenseful horror game, The Devil in Me is a great option.

The game's plot takes place when a group of documentary filmmakers receive a mysterious call inviting them to visit a modern replica of the “Castle of Death” owned by HH Holmes, a notorious 19th century serial killer. Eager to film exclusive content, the documentary filmmakers did not hesitate to accept the invitation. However, upon arriving at the replica, they realize that something is terribly wrong. The place turns into a death trap, and they find themselves trapped in a sadistic game of torture and survival.

In The Devil in Me you can explore and investigate the environment looking for clues and solving puzzles, in addition, your choices directly affect the fate of the characters, and can lead to different endings. Stay alert and respond to quick events with precision to avoid character deaths.

The graphic quality in capturing the characters' faces is impressive, offering a realistic facial expression, the environment is well constructed, immersing players in a realistic scenario that contributes to the game's tense atmosphere. The lighting is a highlight, especially in dark environments, giving realism to the scenes and contributing to the suspenseful atmosphere. The dubbing is quality, adding layers to the interpretation of the characters.

However, the problems are clear in this game, for example, the action buttons could be aligned with the colors of the Xbox controller, as in previous games in the series. Furthermore, the characters' robotic movements, pop-in problems, unrealistic animations in cutscenes and frequent bugs affect immersion. The predictability of the jump scares reduces their effectiveness, and the characters, despite being visually well captured, lack depth, resulting in little emotional connection on the part of the player.

The story of The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me has gaps. Characters change clothes without explanation during scene transitions, and at certain times, actions or tools are not clearly indicated, requiring the player to remember the period in which the game indicated the actions. The story of persecution is very confusing, the villain of the plot performs certain actions in multiple places simultaneously, turning the character into a figure approximate to God.

Despite several flaws, the game still manages to captivate with a symbolic ending, mine at least, and emotionally distressing. The attempt to offer varied endings is notable, but the lack of coherence in the narrative can compromise the player's experience.

In The Devil in Me, exploration and puzzle solving influence the characters' fates, with choices determining different outcomes. The graphic quality of the faces and setting is remarkable, contributing to the tense atmosphere. However, technical problems such as robotic movements, bugs and inconsistencies in the story compromise the immersion. Despite this, the game manages to intrigue with an emotional ending, but gaps in the narrative can affect the player's experience.
