Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the fourth book in the acclaimed series written by JK Rowling, is a work full of suspense, adventure and personal growth for the protagonist. Originally published in 2000, this volume marks a significant transition in the young wizard's saga, introducing darker, more complex elements that capture both Harry's maturation and Voldemort's increasingly clear threats.

In this book, Harry returns to Hogwarts, where he is surprised to be chosen, inexplicably, to participate in the dangerous Triwizard Tournament, a competition between three schools of magic. Through the tournament's challenging trials, Harry faces unknown dangers and discovers deep secrets that change his understanding of the world itself and its history.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire not only expands the magical universe with the introduction of new characters, creatures and lore, but also deepens the emotional narrative. Rowling's writing in this volume masterfully combines suspense and humor, creating an engaging read that keeps the reader eager for the outcome of each chapter.

Furthermore, this book is a turning point in the series, as it reveals more about the dark past of Voldemort and his followers, the Death Eaters, while planting the seeds for the grand and dangerous events to come. The evolution of the characters, especially that of Harry, Hermione and Ron, is remarkable, reflecting the complexities of adolescence and the weight of responsibilities that lie ahead.

My reading of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was carried out in the edition of the Box Harry Potter – Complete Series by Rocco, translated by Lia Wyler. This box is a true jewel for everyone who grew up following the young wizard's saga and for new generations of fans who want to embark on this magical journey. The book's cover is merely velvety, with an illustration by Jonny Duddle that adopts a more caricature style, avoiding realism. This artistic approach brings a special charm, standing out on both the cover and back cover.

One slightly controversial note I make: the author mentions that Harry's only living relatives are the Dursleys, omitting the existence of Sirius Black, his godfather, who Harry considers a close relative. This small slip, however, does not compromise the initial narrative, which is well written and detailed, immersing the reader in the plot in a captivating way. Unlike the previous volumes, this book begins with a darker tone, foreshadowing the challenges to come.

Rowling shines at describing characters in vivid and often comical ways, depending on the personality involved. This is one of the strengths of the book, making each character memorable and unique. Furthermore, Voldemort's participation in this volume is particularly notable, finally exploring the villain in a way that meets the expectations created throughout the series.

The last chapters are intensely revealing, tying up several loose ends and providing an almost satisfying and exciting ending to the narrative. The author manages to keep the reader engaged until the last page, with revelations that give new meaning to the book's previous events.

However, there are some negative points to consider. The lack of illustrations throughout the book is a missed opportunity. Although there is an illustration on the back of the book, it does not replace the impact that illustrations distributed throughout the reading could provide. Furthermore, the typography chosen is a little small, which may make reading less comfortable for some.

Some chapters at the beginning of the book seem unnecessary, functioning more as filler than really adding value to the plot. This aspect can make the narrative seem dragged at certain times. Finally, compared to the film, the book offers an ending that, although symbolically rich, can leave the reader wanting something more concrete and less abstract. Despite these negative points, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire It is an essential book for any fan of the series. It offers a powerful combination of humor, suspense and character growth, cementing Harry's transition to even greater and darker challenges to come.

“If you want to know what a man is like, see how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.” – Sirius Black
