Eternity: The Last Unicorn – Disappointing | Review

“Eternity: The Last Unicorn” is a very colorful game, which has a good story and tried to implement the dynamics of classic games, but the end result was poor graphic quality.

Do Brazilian developers have what it takes to create games? Well, that depends... Eternity: The Last Unicorn, created by Void Studios and released in March this year, is an example of a Brazilian game available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. In this game, players will explore a fantasy world as an elf embarks on a journey to find the last unicorn.

As mentioned previously, Eternity: The Last Unicorn tells the story of an elf named Aurehen and a warrior named Bjor, who end up teaming up during the game. Inspired by one of the Norse tales, Aurehen begins his journey in search of his goals in a world full of supernatural creatures. “But why is she so determined to find this unicorn?” The answer lies in the legend that suggests that by locating this animal, she will be able to free her race from a terrible curse.

During this adventure, we will come across several opponents that will cross our path as we try to unravel the game's mysteries. We will also have the opportunity to explore alternative routes to achieving our goals. As we progress through the story, we acquire new abilities by collecting items from chests hidden in the environment or defeating enemies.

Unfortunately, the characters fail to create an emotional bond, something that is commonly found in big games. This problem is compounded by the fact that, in addition to Aurehen, we interact with other characters in each world we visit, all of whom display a lack of charisma.

The game mechanics are reminiscent of the first titles in the Resident Evil and God of War series, adopting fixed cameras, although in a way that does not contribute to the game's dynamics. Furthermore, the combat is unsatisfactory and can cause frustration on several occasions. It is notable that the enemies' artificial intelligence leaves something to be desired, as they do not demonstrate great skill.

As for graphic quality, Eternity: The Last Unicorn has adequate lighting and some well-crafted details, although it still contains several imperfections. The lack of detail in the scenarios can give the impression that there was more emphasis on the characters and less attention given to the parts that could be improved in the environments of this great adventure. However, the game has positive points, such as the intensity of the glow, which is very attractive, especially in dark scenarios, creating a visually pleasant atmosphere.

The soundtrack is of good quality, but the main problem is its excessive reproduction. It is constantly present, quickly switching between tracks without adequate transitions, which harms immersion in the game.

Eternity: The Last Unicorn is a pretty vibrant game, with a decent narrative and an attempt to emulate the gameplay of classic games. However, the final result is compromised by insufficient graphical quality, especially with regard to the scenarios, in addition to presenting difficult and problematic gameplay.
