The Chucky series arrived in October 2021 with the creation made by the character's creator, Don Mancini. It was developed in partnership with SYFY and USA, the first season contains 8 episodes and a second season has already been announced.

The plot takes place in the city of Hackensack where the teenager Jake lives with his father, Jake likes to make doll sculptures, he buys a doll at a garage sale near his house without having the slightest idea that that doll is the famous one. Chucky. Famous because he is already the subject of the internet for a murder rumor caused in the city in which a simple doll named Chucky was declared, by a witness, as the author of the death. This is a very present point in the series, Chucky's past, in addition to the murder rumor, is also told the story of Chucky before he became a doll, from childhood to his adult life. These flashbacks are common in many characters with a lot of baggage, but the series ends up crossing the line and making the series more uninteresting with many flashbacks throughout the entire season.

Jake's life is very complicated, his mother died and his father is an alcoholic and homophobic, Jake is gay and his father doesn't like him talking about it with him. Jake's uncle is married and has a son, it's a family that lives very well but without much direct connection with Jake and his father. Also, Jake is bullied at school and can't come out with a classmate he's in love with and a fervent listener of her podcast on criminal cases.

The series is made with a very “rooted” Chucky, with a lot of suspense, violent deaths, comedy and a lot of debauchery. I remembered a lot the first Chucky movies and I had a lot of laughs with the sarcastic Chucky present in this series. The assassin puppet is very debauched and also very smart, he makes the head of everyone around him to kill with a great support of the script, that is, nothing without logic. Speaking of script, the script is very light, very youthful, but very constructive that reminded me a lot of the Stranger Things series, also for a very striking opening with specific elements of each episode.

Chucky contains very shallow performances and without much prominence with special effects nothing more than expected, very simple and in some frames it is clear that they use chroma key. The sentimental side of the characters contains a lot of dryness, without construction for a change that ends up reminding a lot of those performances in youth soap operas.

A nostalgic side is also the return of two characters from previous films to help young people in the relentless search for the killer doll in Hackensack. The first season ends by leaving answers in the air and with Chucky saying in the credits that the answers only depend on the sponsors, that is, the budget for the second season. It's a very characteristic ending for the character, but it could be better.

"I didn't kill her, I swear to God, Jake." – Chucky

Conclusion

Chucky's first season is a throwback to the first movies with a lot of violent death and a lot of comedy. It can win over card-carrying fans and cause some people to feel strange. The series finale leaves something to be desired and I hope to have the answers as soon as possible in the second season.
