Batman (2022) is a film based on the character Batman from DC Comics, a reboot of the Batman franchise and directed by Matt Reeves, screenwriter along with Peter Craig. It stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne / Batman, alongside Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, and Colin Farrell. It follows the story of Batman in his second year of fighting crime and seeking revenge, as he uncovers corruption in Gotham City while pursuing the Riddler, a serial killer who targets Gotham's elite.
The film was scheduled to be released in June 2021, but production was delayed between March and September 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was released in the United States on March 4, 2022. Two sequels are planned and two spin-off television series are in development for HBO Max.
The plot takes place during Halloween, Gotham City Mayor Don Mitchell Jr. is murdered by a serial-killer who calls himself Riddler. Operating in Gotham for two years, Batman, billionaire Bruce Wayne, investigates the case alongside the Gotham City Police Department. Lieutenant Gordon discovers that the Riddler has left a message for Batman, but Commissioner Pete Savage scolds him for allowing Batman into the crime scene and forces him to leave. The Riddler kills Savage, leaving another message for Batman and sending a video of his death to Gotham's media.
As such, Batman and Gordon discover that the Riddler left a flash drive in Mitchell's car; contains footage of Mitchell with a woman, Annika, at the Iceberg Lounge, a club operated by Penguin, lieutenant of mobster Carmine Falcone. Batman interrogates Penguin, who claims to know nothing, but realizes that Selina Kyle, Annika's roommate and girlfriend, works there as a waitress. He follows Selina to Mitchell's house, where they discover Annika's passport in a safe. When Annika disappears, Batman sends Selina back to the Iceberg Lounge to look for answers. Through Selina, Batman learns that Gotham District Attorney Gil Colson is on Falcone's payroll, but Selina breaks off communication when Batman presses her about her relationship with Falcone.
From there, Gotham's night watchman and city authorities do everything to intercept the Riddler.
I confess that when I watched all the trailers for Batman I was very excited for the movie, it looked like everything was perfect to be a great movie but it ended up disappointing me a little. In the film one of the funniest and coolest things is the fear of the city's henchmen with the dark, at the beginning of the film we can see the city in chaos and the miscreants at all times looking at dark spaces in the city for fear of the night watchman being around. close. The choice of Robert Pattinson generated conflict among Batman fans, but in my opinion, the actor was excellent and delivered what he had to deliver, even more making a Batman younger and inexperienced.
In addition to Robert, it is worth mentioning the great performance of Colin Farrell, the Penguin. The actor was unrecognizable, his makeup and costume delivered the most realistic Penguin possible ever seen on film. Speaking of costumes, the Batman costume for an inexperienced hero is a very large costume, as a fan of the Nolan trilogy that I am, I really liked the Batman costume. Besides, of course, the Batmobile that, after the Tumbler, I dare say it is one of the best Batmobiles ever seen in cinema. The chase present in the film with the Batmobile does not come close to the feet of previous films of the hero, it is clear that the film uses closed shots that ends up making the film less realistic and using the rain, I have never seen Gotham city as rainy as in this one film, some say it is to hide the film's imperfections.
The action scenes are to fill the eyes of a big Batman fan, the film's production made the fights very realistic and made many people feel the blows in their skin and the main thing I would like to highlight is the scene that featured the aid of an unexpected lighting, a sequence in the dark in which the weapons, being fired, illuminated the man-bat striking the henchmen.
The Batman in this movie is the one who knocks on the door three times and asks if he is recognized and if he can enter, don't expect the Batman who simply walks into a place inexplicably and breaks the tent pole, he is a different Batman than the fans are used to, maybe that's why I didn't like the script for this film so much.
Yes, the movie is boring, the movie has 3 hours and 30 minutes and in some parts it's pure nonsense, you don't see the story progressing, in some moments I got sleepy, yes, I got sleepy. The cinema is already dark to make people pay attention only to the screen, you watch a completely dark movie with a lot of rain and a weak script, do you believe that can't happen?
Michael Giacchino did excellent work and Batman was no different, the film's soundtrack gives us a darker and grunge look, as Matt Reeves wanted. It's one of the most positive points of the movie, when you finish watching the movie you'll have the melody of the main track in your mind for a long time.
Batman is a dark movie that takes us to Gotham on rainy and dark days with an inexperienced batman and with a dull script, the work could waste less time in winding and let the story flow more.
